Do You want a lot of Core Stability and a Strong Stomach?(That Looks Great Too?)
When you build a house do you start with the roof? Of course not. That would be dumb. When it comes to building a strong, stable core there is a smart way and a dumb way. Let's be smart about building your co*re.
Your core muscles are divided into two systems depending on what they do best.
The two systems are:
The Stabilization System & Movement System.
The Stabilization System
I will give you one guess what the Stabilization System does? That’s right. It deals with core stability. These muscles are your guy wires. A stable core is important. Remember that all movement begins in the core, your core is the foundation of all your movement. Having core stability is like a stable foundation. You can’t build a stable building on an unstable foundation. You can’t move effectively, gracefully, without core stability. If you are going to build a building you start by building your strong, stable foundation. It is the same with your core. The place to start your core training program is with stabilization training. It is important not to progress your training until your stabilization system is strong. If you do, you increase your likelihood of injury and you will be less pleased with your overall results. You Must Stabilize Before You Move!
Train Smart
You have two basic types of muscle fibers in your body: Slow twitch & Fast twitch. These two types of muscle fibers must be trained differently for maximum benefit. The muscles of your Stabilization System are mostly slow twitch.
Slow twitch muscles respond best to long contractions. So, to effectively train your Stabilization System you will need to hold contractions for 90-120 seconds.
You may find your stabilizing muscles are so weak you can’t even hold a contraction for 30 seconds. That’ OK. You have to start wherever you are. Make sure you are doing your workout everyday. You get out what you put in.
