How To Make A Smoothie!
Want to Know How to Make a Smoothie?Smoothies are one of the easiest, yet most nutritious meals ever! Aside from the monstrous amount of nutrients you'll get from smoothies (making them our way!), smoothies are absolutely, positively out-of-this-world delicious!!! So, how does one go about making a tasty, health-enhancing, life-giving smoothie? (A quick note: We at Vibrant Vegan are certain the best smoothies are made with only whole, raw and fresh(when available), fruits and veggies. Great smoothies do not need yogurt, ice cream, or sugar--simply whole vegan foods.) First, you'll need a blender. A high-speed blender is best for the smoothest smoothies. We absolutely love love love love our Blendtec blender! And because we love love love it so very much, we highly recommend it for making smoothies. You can blend to silky smoothness everything from gorgeous leafy greens (kale, chard, spinach, etc.) to crispy, crunchy carrots. This blender "creams" fruits and veggies you'd never dream of putting in a smoothie (because of their texture, mostly). Blendtec blenders are the best, in our opinion, but any high-speed blender will do for making a smoothie. Now you have your blender, what in the world can you put in it? The short, long, and in-between answer is---just about anything in the fruit and vegetable families, along with any soy/hemp/grain beverage, fruit juice, or good old water (our favorite). Here's the Vibrant Vegan "How to Make a Smoothie" Recipe:You'll need at least a 1/4 cup, (or more, depending on how liquidy you like your smoothies) of liquid. Next, choose your fruit and/or veggies of choice--oranges, bananas, pineapple, berries, peaches, mangos, pears, nectarines, grapes, tomatoes, peppers, celery, lemons/limes, cucumbers, etc. (the possibilities are endless, and you can use fresh or frozen). Be sure to chop any "big" fruits/veggies into smaller chunks. For a "green smoothie," or "super smoothie," use a handful of spinach, or a few leaves of kale or chard. (Greens are the most nutritious foods on the planet, thus the "super"-ness.) Keep in mind, greens can be bitter, so use sparingly in the beginning. Give your taste buds some time to get accustomed to their strong flavor. Ok, now for the assembly of your smoothie: Get your blender ready. Pour in your liquid of choice. Then add your harder, firmer fruits/veggies (anything frozen, carrots, apples, etc.) first. Top those with the softer ingredients (bananas, mango, strawberries, tomatoes, etc.). If you're using greens, put those in last. Pop the lid onto your blender, turn it on, blend away! Blend and blend until you've got yourself the smoothie of your dreams. (The Blendtec blender has its own button for making a "whole food" smoothie--so really, with that blender, all you have to do is put in your foods, then push one little button!) To sum all this up simply...1. Get a high-speed blender 2. Pour in your liquid of choice, more or less depending on desired thickness (water is great, but juices and dairy alternatives are fine too) 3. Put the harder, firmer fruits/veggies in (chop the bigger fruits into small chunks) 4. Place the softer fruits/veggies next, again chop into smaller chunks 5. If you're adding greens, put those in now (the very last ingredient) 6. Put the lid on, press the appropriate button(s), and blend until smooth. 7.
