Raw Food & Fitness-Day 19

We have been eating 100% raw food for 19 day now. It feels great.

Kirsten and I have received quite a few questions about why we eat a low-fat raw diet vs. a high-fat raw diet. Before deciding which diet to use on our challenge we read and experimented with the diets from 3 of the most popular raw books:

Representing the low-fat raw diet- The 80/10/10 Diet.

Representing the high-fat raw diet- Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine and, The Sunfood Diet Success System.

After trying both types of raw food diet here are the 4 reasons we went low-fat:

1) Energy

On the high-fat diet we felt tired and sluggish all the time. Our energy levels were low all the time and we felt like we were walking around in a fog. On a high-fat diet we weren't getting all the carbohydrates we needed for our brains to be happy.

On the low-fat raw diet we feel peppy and zippy--vibrant. Our minds feel free of the fog. We can focus and concentrate when our brains get carbs.

2) Digestion

On the high-fat diet our digestion was horrible. We always felt bloated, crampy and gassy. Yuck, it didn't feel healthy and it didn't smell good.

On the low-fat diet our digestion is great. No bloat, no cramps, and best of all, no smelly gas.

3) Convenience

The high-fat diet was very inconvenient. It required way to much planning and hours of preparation. Some of high-fat recipes would take a day or more to make including soaking and dehydrating times.

The low-fat diet is convenient and easy. The biggest challenge is making sure you always have enough fruit around the house.

4) SAD

To us, the high-fat diet is the vegan version of the Standard American Diet(SAD). It it a high-fat, high-protein diet-similar to an Atkin's diet. While it is vegan, so healthier than a cooked, animal based diet, it isn't as healthy as a low-fat raw vegan diet.

All the evidence we have seen demonstrates that humans thrive on a high carbohydrate, low-fat diet.

So, that is why we eat a low-fat raw food vegan diet.
