It's Day 26 of our Raw Food and Fitness Challenge, and today I was thinking how I'm finally "getting" this whole "put yourself first" thing!
Eating a 100% raw diet has helped me realize how good I can feel, and because I'm feeling so good (because I'm eating all these yummy raw fruits and veggies and exercising) I'm feeling like a better parent.
My relationships with my children have improved (some days better than others, of course) because I've started putting myself first. It hasn't been easy (this whole raw challenge and putting myself first in regard to the challenge), but I'm beginning to believe when we as parents (even if you're not a parent I think this is still true) take care of ourselves, truly nurture ourselves, we're better able to give our children what they truly need. We're much more willing to give them what they need and want.
When we parents take better care of ourselves, we're happier as well...and happier mommies and daddies mean happier kids, and happier mommies, daddies, and kids, means happier families. I think happier families can create a happier world. When we're caring for ourselves (changing our diets, exercising, meditating, taking time for ourselves--doing whatever it is that deeply nurtures our being) we're helping to create a more caring world.
So, put yourself first--make the transition to a vegan diet, or a raw vegan diet, start exercising, and become the best parent, the best person, the best YOU ever!
