Day 4 of the our 100 Day Raw Food and Fitness Experiment
Radical Vegans
Quite a few people we have told about our experiment say, "You must be crazy. Eating some raw fruits and veggies is good, but veganism is just radical and for the completely committed".
Is it radical to want to improve not only one's individual health, but also the health of our planet? (Eating a vegan diet has a more positive impact on climate than any of the recommendations to drive less and put compact fluorescent lights in your house)
Is it really "radical" to avoid eating all animal products. Isn't eating the flesh and mammary secretions of innocent living beings when you have ABSOLUTELY NO NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS for them "radical"? Isn't it "radical" to kill unnecessarily? (This is what you do every time you eat meat, drink milk, eat cheese and yogurt, broil and eat salmon, etc. etc.)
"Radical" is continuing to eat animals. "Radical" is eating an animal-based diet that is proven to cause all of the major diseases from which many Americans are suffering-Heart disease, Diabetes, Cancer, Obesity.
"Radical" is making dietary choices that are based more on emotional attachment than compassion. When one's dietary choices are guided by compassion, "giving up" foods that might otherwise seem difficult is welcomed joyfully. When you choose to "give up" eating animals and their secretions, you realize you really just giving up suffering, death and destruction-easy things to give up.
We think the Standard American Diet of meat and milk is radical. That is what we think.
