Raw Food & Fitness-Day 59

Raw Food To Save The Planet!

We just had company visiting us. They were here for about 5 days and we had a wonderful visit. Today we were cleaning up the house and were amazed at what we found.

By the time we were finished cleaning we had a counter full of containers and packages, all from the cooked vegan food our guest ate.

Energy

Here is the amazing thing about all the food packaging we found: All the packaging required an enormous amount of energy to produce. The food that came in those package also required large amounts of energy to process. Then, even more energy was used to cook, or reheat the foods before they were consumed.

As you can see, a cooked vegan diet requires a bunch of energy. The more energy intensive a diet is the less sustainable it is.

An animal-based diet is the most resource intensive diet, easily beating out a cooked vegan diet, therefore it is the least sustainable diet.

Nutrients

Another amazing thing about all the packaging on our counter, even though most of can and will be recycled, is that it is all waste. None of it will become food, or nutrients, for growing more food.

A low-fat raw food vegan diet like the one we are eating produces almost no waste. 99% of what leaves our house as "garbage" is vegetable and fruit matter. All of it will compost and become nutrients for other plants and eventually animals.

Self & Planet

A low-fat raw vegan diet requires very little energy and produces mostly nutrients. So, if you want to be healthy and eat the most sustainable diet on the planet go raw!
