Raw Food & Fitness-Day 81

It's Day 81 of our Raw Food and Fitness Challenge!

Derrick and I went for a long, lovely yet speedy walk today with the kids, and while walking we started talking about why people change the name of the animal body parts they eat.

Humans don't change the names of whole plant foods we eat, yet we almost always change the name of the muscles of animals.

An apple is always an apple

It's never disguised by fancy packaging or coloring, or words. An orange is an orange. A peach is always called a peach. Romaine lettuce is always romaine lettuce. Whole grains are what they are; they're called exactly what they are. Plant foods need no tricks or gimmicks to make you think you're eating something other than what they are. No one would be disgusted by a piece of fruit, a vegetable, or whole grains.

Are you lying to yourself? Why?

But eating the body parts (muscles mostly) of animals who were unnecessarily killed is something I think animal flesh eaters feel guilty about. What other reason is there for calling a piece of a pig's shoulder muscle "roast"? Or why call a piece of a cow's back muscle "steak"? Why do animal eaters say "I'm eating veal" Instead of, "I'm eating part of a baby cow"?

"Steak," "roast," "chuck," "haggis," "tripe,"hot dogs," "hamburger," "ground beef," "beef," "tender loin," and "veal..." the list of lies and disguises goes on and on. If you're going to participate in the suffering and killing of animals, why not call it what it is?

One of the zillion wonderful things about eating a whole foods vegan diet, or a raw food vegan diet is you always know what you're eating! Farmers, growers, grocery stores, etc. don't need to change the name of any whole vegan food! It's simple, nutritious, good-for-the-planet, humane food!

To end suffering, to stop lying to yourself (if you eat animals), to make this world a happier and healthier place...
