Outfitting your Vegan Kitchen

We absolutely love preparing (and eating, of course) healthy, delicious vegan meals. Every now and then, there’s a “must-have” piece of equipment that makes the meal preparation easier and the dish even more tantalizing.

Because we want you to love eating healthy vegan foods, and love eating them for a lifetime, here’s a list of Vibrant Vegan’s Must-Haves for a healthier, happier kitchen:

1- Blendtec Blender

Number one on our list is our high-speed, commercial quality Blendtec Blender because it gets used everyday. If you're into smoothies, this is the kitchen gadget for you! If smooth vegetable soups are a common occurrence at your house, the Blendtec blender is certain to make your life easier and your soups more delicious--along with thick and creamy! We use our Blendtec Blender everyday, and we are totally serious when we say "everyday."

2- Food Processor

“I already have a high-speed blender. Why do I need a food processor?” We use BOTH our food processor and blender several times a week. The blender has it’s “jobs” in our kitchen, which are completely different from the “jobs” of the food processor. Here’s a list of our favorite uses for our food processor:

-grinding whole raw nuts and/or seeds into a light fluffy “meal” to be used to sprinkle on salads and grain-based dishes, tossed into smoothies, mixed with dried fruits for “energy snacks,” and much more!

-grating cabbage, carrots, and celery for saurkrauts

-blending whole cooked beans into a mostly-smooth version of our refried beans

-processing huge amounts of veggies for veggies soups and chilis (because, as we all know, chopping an enormous amount of veggies can take a long long time)

-making the smoothest, creamiest, most luscious silken tofu-based chocolate mousse ever

3- Cutting Board

Since we eat, and recommend, a low-fat, high-raw, whole, organic food, vegan diet, we eat lots of fresh food. All that fresh, healthy, nourishing food requires a little preparation.

So, a large, high-quality cutting board is absolutely crucial for chopping greens, fruits, and veggies.

There are many great cutting boards to choose from. We have a couple of large cutting boards. One is made of bamboo and our favorite is a Japanese Hinoki Wood Cutting Board. In addition to helping keep your knives sharp, Hinoki wood is resistant to rot, bacteria and fungus.

4- Chopping Knife

You need, at the very least, one nice chopping knife. You’ll go absolutely bonkers if you don’t have a nice chopping knife. This is one vegan kitchen tool you don't want to scrimp on. Spend some money and get a good knife! You must must must have a sharp, smooth-chopping, functional knife for all those veggies.
