Yummy Vegan Snacks!
Vegan Snacks to Satisfy Our kids love to snack. Snacking seems to be the way the most children prefer to eat at this point in their lives. Yep, they’ll stop for dinner, but these active, busy beings just don’t want to stop their play to have a meal. In order to make sure our kids are getting plenty of calories and nutrients, we’re very mindful in choosing the snack foods we have in our house. Here’s a small sampling of the vegan snacks we have inour home:-Nut and seed butters (peanut butter, almond butter, pecan and walnut butters, pumpkin seed butter, sunflower seed butter, tahini, and on and on and on) with just about anything you can imagine: • Fruit slices dipped in a favorite nut/seed butter • Veggies dipped in a tahini-lemon-garlic blend • Peanut butter on the a whole grain slice of toast • Bananas covered in nut/seed butter then rolled in coconut flakes/raisins • Peanut butter spread over celery, with or without a sprinkling of raisins • A tablespoon of nut/seed butter tossed into a quickie green smoothie • Peanut butter and jam smothered over a whole grain tortilla -We seem to always have a bowl of raw nuts and dried berries/raisins on our kitchen table that’s frequently visited by small hands. All you need to do is mix the desired amount of nuts and dried fruit in a bowl, place it in a heavy traffic area in your home, and you can be certain your kiddos are eating a nutritious snack.-Sliced fruits and veggies -Pita bread wedges, hummus, and thinly sliced veggies -Whole grain tortillas filled with carrots, pepper, spinach, and hummus -Homemade muffins (Try our delicious recipe for Applesauce Muffins) -Air-popped popcorn topped with flaxseed/olive oil and salt -Marinated and baked tofu (Try our super kid friendly recipe for Tofu Sticks -Oven fries (rinse and slice some potatoes into wedges, place the potatoes onto a lightly oiled baking sheet, bake at 350 degrees for up to 45 minutes, or until golden)--yams or sweet potatoes could be used too -Granola mixed with fruit, applesauce, and or grain/soy milk alternative -Cubes of avocado mixed with salsa or chopped tomatoes--alone or rolled in a whole grain tortilla or atop a slice of whole grain bread -Spinach or a favorite leafy green with fresh fruit chunks, nuts, with a small amount of oil-vinegar poured over the top (or a favorite salad dressing) -Kale chips (Check out our Kale Chip Recipe eBook full of fantastic recipes!) The “healthy vegan snack” ideas are endless. Again, this was just a small sampling of a world of nutritious and delicious vegan snack ideas. Snacks don’t have to be packaged and/or processed and filled to the brim with sugar, salt, white flour, chemicals, and unhealthy fats. Vegan snacks can be wholesome, loaded with nutrients, and completely satisfying and utterly yum-a-licious! Snack on, or make a meal out of these (and other) tasty snack ideas, and you’ll be certain you, your children, your family and friends are eating some of the healthiest foods on the planet!
