Raw Vegan Fruit Project

Today's fruit is the WATERMELON!

Again, the purpose of this project is to help and encourage you to eat more fruit. Fruit isn't just a snack.

Fruit can be a meal.

Your diet can be centered around fruits!

Fruits are loaded with vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and oodles of health-enhancing nutrients to help you look and feel fantastic!

Eat more fruit and you're on your way to the most Vibrant You Ever!

Fun Facts:

-Water-melon originated in Africa, and was first cultivated in Egypt. Watermelon was so highly regarded that ancient Egyptian Kings were buried with the fruit!

-Water-melon is 92% water, making it a great food for a hot summer day, and also a wonderfully cleansing fruit.

-Water-melon is high in the antioxidants lycopene and arginine. Lycopene has been shown to protect against certain cancers. Arginine has been shown to lower blood pressure, prevent erectile dysfunction, and improve insulin sensitivity. You know, our bodies are amazing at healing themselves, and when given healthy foods (fruits, of course) our bodies are more able to utilize antioxidants like lycopene and arginine and be disease-free!

-When choosing a water-melon, you want to find one with a deep green, crisp-looking outer rind. Look also for a creamy yellowish spot somewhere on the outside of the melon, which is a good indicator of ripeness. Pick a water-melon that seems heavy for its size too.

AND NOW FOR TODAY'S LOW FAT, RAW VEGAN RECIPE FEATURING THE WATER-MELON!

WATERMELON SORBET

Here's a mouth-watering, nourishing, cooling meal or dessert full of sweetness and bursting with flavor! Another quick and easy recipe containing 300 calories!

Ingredients:

4 cups water-melon

1 orange, peeled

juice of 1/2 to 1 lemon (depends on how tart you like it)

Preparation:

In your blender/food processor, blend the watermelon completely. Pour the watermelon into ice cube trays (the smaller each "ice" compartment, the better).

Once the melon has frozen, pour the lemon juice and place the orange (sectioned) into the blender first, then pop the frozen watermelon into the blender. Blender it all up, and that's it--Watermelon Sorbet--a refreshing, delicious creation!
